  1. The French made the Ivory Coast a protectorate from 1842 until 1960 when it
  2. became independent.  It is a very prosperous tropical African nation.  It has
  3. many agriculture exports and strong ties with France, and encourages foreign
  4. investment.  A great many of Cote D'Ivoire's workers are from other
  5. countries.  It changed its name from the Ivory Coast to Cote D'Ivoire in
  6. 1985.  This country heads the pro-Western bloc in Africa.
